From 1 Jan 2027, F2 fiscalization is mandatory for Croatian sole traders. Are you ready?

KPD code on an e-invoice: how to find the right code for your business

Every e-invoice line must carry a KPD code, and many sole traders are only now finding out what that is and where to look it up. Here is what KPD is, how to find the right code for your services or products, and how to enter it once so it is copied onto every invoice.

What is a KPD code?

KPD 2025 (Klasifikacija proizvoda po djelatnostima, the Classification of Products by Activity) is Croatia's central product and service classification, fully aligned with the European CPA 2.2. On an e-invoice, every line must be linked to a correct KPD code, written with at least six digits, for example 55.10.00.

KPD is not the same as NKD. NKD describes the activity of your business, while KPD describes the product or service you actually sold on that invoice.

Where is the KPD code used?

The KPD code is part of the e-invoice, that is, invoices you issue to Croatian businesses that are fiscalized with F2. It is not needed for invoices to individuals (F1) or to clients outside Croatia.

How to find the right code

  1. Open KLASUS, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics' official application for searching classifications, and choose KPD 2025.
  2. Start from the sector that matches your activity. For example, manufacturers look in sector C and traders in sector G.
  3. Search by the name of your service or product, read the explanation next to the code and pick the one that best describes what you really sell.
  4. Write the code down in the form XX.XX.XX.
  5. If you can't find a suitable code, the Bureau of Statistics offers support by email at KPD@dzs.hr.

Depending on the circumstances, the same product can fall under different codes. For example, wholesale and retail trade use different codes within the trade sector. If you are unsure, confirm your choice with your accountant.

The item name and the KPD name are not the same

On an e-invoice you must state the item name, and it doesn't have to match the official name of the KPD code. The Tax Administration's example: for hotel services the code is 55.10.00, the KPD name is “Usluge hotelskog i sličnog smještaja” (hotel and similar accommodation services), and the item name on the invoice can simply be “Polupansion” (half board). The KPD name is not printed on the invoice or sent in the fiscalization message.

Likewise, one KPD code can apply to several different items. So you don't need a separate code for every product, but each item must carry the correct code for what it is.

The KPD code in Moj Obrt

  • My items: you can save a KPD code on each item. The code is not required on the item itself.
  • Issuing an invoice: when you pick an item, its KPD code is copied onto the invoice line. You can also enter or change it directly on the invoice.
  • Required only when needed: if the invoice is F2-fiscalized, every line must have a KPD code. For other invoices you can leave it empty.
  • Offers: the KPD code is carried onto the offer too, so converting an offer to an invoice doesn't mean entering it again.
  • Stripe: for invoices from Stripe sales, set a default KPD code on the Stripe connection.
  • XML import: when you import e-invoices issued through other intermediaries, Moj Obrt reads the KPD code from the XML. Imported invoices are only recorded and are not fiscalized again.

The most common KPD mistakes

  • Copying someone else's code because “they do the same thing”, instead of checking in KLASUS.
  • The same code on every line, no matter what is being sold.
  • Mixing up KPD with NKD.
  • A code written without dots or with spaces. Moj Obrt converts such entries to the XX.XX.XX form for you.
  • Looking for the code at the last minute, right before the first invoice.

Frequently asked questions

What is a KPD code on an e-invoice?

A KPD code is a code from the Classification of Products by Activity (KPD 2025) that describes the product or service on an e-invoice line. It is written with at least six digits, in the form XX.XX.XX.

Where can I find my KPD code?

In KLASUS, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics' official application. Choose KPD 2025, start from the sector of your activity and search by the name of your service or product. For help you can write to KPD@dzs.hr.

Do I need a KPD code on every invoice?

No. The KPD code is part of the e-invoice, so it is needed on the lines of an invoice that is fiscalized with F2. Invoices to individuals (F1) and to foreign clients don't have this requirement. Moj Obrt only asks for a KPD code on invoices that will be F2-fiscalized.

Can I use the same KPD code for all items?

Only if that code genuinely describes all of them. The Tax Administration requires every item to be linked to the correct KPD code, so choose the code by what is actually sold.

Does the KPD name have to appear on the invoice?

No. The item name is mandatory on the invoice, and it doesn't have to match the KPD name. The KPD name is only for clarification and isn't printed on the e-invoice or sent in the fiscalization message.

What if I can't find a suitable code?

The Tax Administration advises contacting the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (KPD@dzs.hr) in that case. It is also worth involving your accountant.

Does Moj Obrt support KPD codes?

Yes. You can save a KPD code on an item, enter it on an invoice or offer line, set it as the default for a Stripe connection, and when you import an e-invoice from XML, Moj Obrt reads it from the document.
